It’s a good time to explore more of our WDDI Guide to Summer Fun in Denton and the CVB’s Denton On A Dollar as you try to keep it made in the shade during these dog days of summer. This week of #DENTONING adventures has plenty to look forward to, as well as a Friday The 13th, so here are our top #DEN10 events to peruse but post your favorites we missed in the comments.
THURSDAY, July 12
Killer Tomato Fights | BackYard On Bell | 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Texas Horror Company brings the cult classic “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” for a summer screening, and what promises to be an epic TOMATO FIGHT in the backyard! They’ll also have live music with Puddin Taine, food trucks, vendors, a raffle, and some special foods.
Big Band Night | Abbey Underground | 10:00 PM - 1:00 AM
Twilight Tunes goes on hiatus during the dog days of summer, but luckily you can soak in some Big Band and Swing hits in the cool of the basement! Thursdays are also always hoppin’ downtown with a bicycle social ride at Eastside, live jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, gnoshes at Wine2, wacky music at J&J’s Undercrust ODB, and plenty of good choices around the Square.
Grand Opening!! | Free Play Denton | 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Okay, so its really a SOFT OPEN but rest assured - everything that matters is here: (1) 50+ awesome retro arcade games and pinball machines; (2) over 50 taps of cold beer; (3) a critically-acclaimed craft soda program; with (4) one of the coolest 80s vibes ever anywhere!
Wine and Whiskers | Applejack’s Liquor | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Wine tasting, refreshments, raffle, and adorable critters from the Denton Animal Support Foundation fill an evening of libations and fun, all for the benefit of Denton area animals. Funds raised at this event will provide adoption subsidies for animals at the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center, and care for pets in the Denton area.
Friday Night Drags! |North Star Dragway | 6:00 PM - 11:55 PM
We’re used to another kind of Drag Show in Denton, but sometimes you maybe wanna watch awesome cars go crazy fast, too! In this anyone-can-race speed contest, you could see ratrods, restored classics, grocery-getters, or backyard dragsters racing the clock for fame and fortune.
Music and Mayhem | Lone Star Indoor Sports | 8:00 PM - 12:00 AM
We love watching Roller Derby here, but this new mash-up of live music and professional wrestling has us intrigued! Observe and report, Denton Doers!!
SATURDAY, July 14
Denton Community Market | Denton County Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
The beloved Denton Community Market is the best way to ring in Saturdays, with all kinds of nifty crafty swag, produce, veggies, food, tours of the Bayless-Selby House, and live music! Browsing always pairs nicely with Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square.
Andy, Amber & Emily’s Rock Show Birthday | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 5:00 PM - 2:00 AM
Three July birthdays, two bands, one Colonel Burns, a variety of artists, and one legendary venue for this spectacular birthday party with all sales handed directly to DMAC of Denton!
Lagerpalooza | The Bearded Monk | 6:00 PM - 1:00 AM
As the temperatures climb high, come sip a cold craft brewski and sample the wares of Community Beer Company at this benefit for the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home! Live music and a high chance of shenanigans.
SUNDAY, July 15
5 Year Anniversary | Mulberry Street Cantina | 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM
It seems like only yesterday when our favorite cantina started serving up margaritas and tasty cocktails, but here we are at their wood anniversary (no, seriously, look it up). ¡Feliz Aniversario!
