Looking at another wet weekend but never fear, there’s still a ton of fun to be had around the Lil’ D as you do your Christmas shopping! It’s also graduation weekend for UNT and TWU so expect heavy traffic and a few wrong-way-on-a-one-way surprises. This week in #DENTONING adventures also has plenty of holiday shenanigans, and Christmas Lights galore, so here is our top #DEN10 weekly events!


THURSDAY, December 13th

Metalachi | Andy’s Bar | 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM    
The world’s only Heavy Metal Mariachi Band hits Denton with what looks to be a wild and zany show!

FRIDAY, December 14th

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever| Campus Theater | 7:30 PM & weekend matinees   
Denton Community Theatre presents this delightful family comedy is about the rowdy Herdman children who attend church for the first time and end up in the annual Christmas pageant... which proceeds to go hilariously awry! Ticket prices are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), and $15 for students (through college). Tickets are available online or at the Campus Theatre Box Office Monday through Friday from 1:00pm – 5:00pm.

Joe Ely | Dan’s Silverleaf | 7:00 PM - 11:59 PM  
The legendary Honky Tonk singer/songwriter/guitarist spent 2016 as the reigning “Texas State Musician,” but he brings his signature sound to Dan’s stage for this special evening. If’n they’re sold out, go catch the Naughty Christmas Party at The Bearded Monk.

SATURDAY, December 15th

Life Stories: The Quilts of Barbara McCraw exhibit| Patterson-Appleton Arts Center | 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM  
Browsing Denton businesses always pairs nicely with Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square, but do not miss the amazing exhibit of Barbara McCraw’s stunning quilts and other cool stuff at the GDAC!! Then head back at 7pm for the Yule Ball hosted by the Greater Denton Arts Council.

Rent: A Tenants Town Hall meeting| Q’s Café | 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM  
53% of Denton residents are renters. Are you part of that tenant majority? Come share your stories with At-Large City Councilperson Deb Armintor, ask questions, & learn more about why she is pushing for a tenants advocacy advisory committee to City Council. 

Ugly Sweater Contest | Denton County Brewing Co. | 8:00 PM - 12:45 AM  
Denton is blessed with a bounty of ugly Christmas sweaters, but whose will reign supreme? Get on your ugliest XMas Sweater (or buy one from PINT Services) and bring unwrapped toy donations for Toys for Tots- Denton because Community is hosting an Ugly Sweater Contest and toy drive at The Bearded Monk.

SUNDAY, December 16th

Sunday Brunch | Chestnut Tree |11:00 AM - 2:00 PM  
Since 1994, The Chestnut Tree has proudly served Denton delicious Breakfast, Brunch, & Lunch Options as the longest running restaurant on the Historic Downtown Denton Square. Go taste for yourself why (tho I’m still partial to their Saturday Jazz Brunch with bottomless mimosas). Afterwards, go swing by Dan’s Winter Market and shop local for unique handmade arts & crafts! 

Queer and Cheer | Oak Street Draft House | 2:00 PM –6:00 PM  
QUEER & CHEER is like Pride but with more layers of clothes and cute beanies!!  But most importantly, it’s the time to gather with your queer & trans community and chosen family. 

Daddy Dick’s HO HO HO Show | Crossroads Bar | 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Get your babysitters and make plans to check out Daddy Dick's HO HO HO SHOW with open mic karaoke after 10 pm, so it's a win win! The beer is cold and the entertainment is hooottt!!!!
